GAGA TO RESURRECT HILTON'S CAREER?
2/27/09 // 9:18 PM
SOURCE

Sizzling socialite Paris Hilton has asked raunchy diva Lady GaGa to help her resurrect her pop career.

The hotel heiress has invited chart-topping GaGa, real name Stefani Germanotta, to record a track at her private music studio inside her LA mansion.

The two blondes became close friends after Paris was invited to dance on stage with the scantily clad singer as she performed a gig earlier this year.

Following her short, albeit huge pop success, Paris was dropped by Warner Bros Records despite having a top ten hit in 17 countries with Stars are Blind.

With her second album finished but no label willing to release it, Paris is hoping to talk the controversial GaGa into laying down a track for the album.

Paris said: "Lady GaGa is incredible and has become an instant icon in fashion and music.

"I love her music and I'd love to do a song with her. She is taking over the charts and it would be incredible to work with such a talent."

Lady GaGa hasn't ruled out a duet with her new best friend and reckons Paris is a good pop star in her own right.

She said: "Paris is great. We went to the same school so I was always dying to meet her and now we are friends.

"She released a great pop song in Stars Are Blind. It was a great record.

"Things are pretty hectic at the moment but who knows if we'll do something together."

THE SATURDAYS TALK ABOUT GAGA'S PRIVATE LIFE
// 9:17 PM
SOURCE

The Saturdays have claimed that Lady GaGa probably leads a "great private life".

The girlband insisted that fans would be unable to spot the star - known for her oversized sunglasses and outlandish stage costumes - when she is not working.

"I bet she finds it easy to walk down the street without getting recognised," Una Healy told DS.

"When she's dressed down and not wearing that hair-piece, you wouldn't know who she is. She could probably have a great private life."

Her bandmate Rochelle Wiseman added: "What the hell would she look like when she's not all done up? I'd honestly have no idea."

However, The Saturdays expressed varying opinions on Lady GaGa's music.

Vanessa White called the singer "an absolute star", but her bandmate Frankie Sandford said: "I like her, but I wouldn't necessarily buy her album."

"The Only One" is Lady Gaga
By:Joshua Miller

Lady Gaga has been taking the world by storm with her new #1 record "The Fame" and now the confirmed headlining performer for White Party Palm Springs 20th Anniversary. I got the chance to talk "Gaga" with her tranz2tranz...

1) Just last year at White Party Palm Springs you performed at the pool party and in just one year you are headlining the 20th Anniversary in Palm Springs. How does that feel?
It’s incredibly rewarding and I am really happy that it’s coming full circle.

2) Who has been your favorite White Party Performer to date?
Well, I would have to say Tracy Young. She was the DJ that was on before performance. She was super accommodating to my DJ, Space Cowboy.

3) Since you are from NYC… Out of all the artists who performed live at The Saint, which one has most inspired you?
I wish I had been around for the Saint. I’m about 30 years too young for that one. I know it holds major status as one of the gay iconic clubs of the 80’s. I’m sure I would have loved it but I’m not completely familiar with what songs and artists broke from there. I’ll have to start doing my research on it.

4) Where is your favorite hang out in West Hollywood? What is your preferred drink/ cocktail?
Honestly, when I moved to LA last year, I barely went out. I was there to write and produce and that was my life 24/7. Once I slow down for a minute I would love to hang more. I have enjoyed performing at all the clubs such as The Abbey. I really loved Here Lounge too.

5) You like to play “the nice girl” in the tabloids but you have got to have that inner diva. What is something that drives you crazy, what is your biggest pet peeve?
Oh.. I have an outer diva too…trust me…lol… I guess when I put on a show whether it’s a secret small club gig or it’s a huge venue like MSG, I put my all 100% into it. No matter what and I expect the same from everyone that’s working with me to have the same attitude.

6) You are very hands on with your image. What goes into the design and creation of your live shows?
It’s constantly evolving. Keep watching because it’s going to change again soon. Let me know thoughts, always love to get feedback.

7) You are known for your sickening Drag Queen fashion sense. I have heard about a clothing line in the works. Any idea of what it will be called?
Will there be a men's line or will it be exclusively for TranzStarz and women? I’m still working on it, but I can’t imagine creating clothing for just women. I definitely see my fashion ideas crossing into all sexes.

8) The Music on “The Fame” is very sexual and aggressive, is you the same way in between the sheets? “If” you were a gay man, would you be a top or bottom?
I’m both... why limit yourself. Personally I think I being exclusively “anything” gets a bit boring when it comes to sex.

9) You explore your sexuality quite a bit, especially in the new music video for "Love Game" in the phone booth with a HOT female. What would you consider your sexuality to be?
"Muffin–Sexual” …lol

10) If you could combine four different celebrities/ inspirations to be your perfect partner/lover who would it be?
Well I used to sleep with a guy that gave me multiple personalities and multiple orgasms so I‘ve already been there…ha

GAGA FOR GIRL POWER

EVERY now and then pop music undergoes a dramatic shift and if you believe the people who influence what we listen to, we're on the verge of just such a new-broom phase.

Out, according to record labels, are the male guitar bands that have dominated the charts and airwaves for much of the decade; in are solo electropop artists who have arrived en masse from Planet Quirky.

If things go to plan, they'll be leading a return to idiosyncratic, credible pop to an extent that hasn't been seen since the 1980s. And the hottest prospects are women.

Thanks to artists such as Little Boots, La Roux, Ladyhawke and Lady GaGa, electropop's image as the domain of the male technogeek is getting a makeover. These women, all in their early 20s, are of a generation that has been adept with computers since primary school; when these women started writing songs, they turned to their laptops rather than picking up a guitar.

The future, according to New Yorker Lady GaGa, is female and electro.

"It's a good time now," she says, speaking on the telephone from San Diego. "There's a big empty space that was waiting to be filled by women."

GaGa - Joanne Germanotta to her parents - has already proved a controversial stage performer. She shows a lot of flesh and writes explicit lyrics. "I sing about oral sex in my underwear," as she puts it.

This, she says, is part of an effort to produce memorable art. She says her inspiration is Andy Warhol, "because of his ability to take commercial art and create an intellectual and artistic space where it was taken seriously. The idea is to make things - videos, fashion, performance art - which are innately significant and insignificant, that will cause argument: 'Is Lady GaGa valid or invalid?' "

Others before her, such as Berlin-based electropop act Peaches, have used a similar combination of a confrontational, sexualised image with a high-minded artistic vision; the difference is that GaGa sells records.

Her album The Fame is at No. 7 and she has three songs in the top 40.

Her sound is hard, modern and chrome-edged but she hasn't forgotten to add choruses, as a listen to Just Dance proves. Her tracks are diabolically catchy.

There is something of the young Madonna about GaGa: she's boundlessly ambitious - "I intend to have an installation at the Louvre and [New York's] MoMA [Museum of Modern Art]" - and emphatically denies she is a record-company construct.

"To be quite honest, the label had to tone me down," she says. "You'd think they were giving me tiny shorts to put on but it was the other way around. When they met me, I was working in a nightclub in New York, half naked, but I had a big voice and they liked me. If anything, they put more clothes on me."

An encounter with GaGa is bracing and you come away heartened by the prospect of people like her in the charts. Iain Watt, who manages Mika and founded the Wonky Pop brand, which includes live events and a record label, sees genuine commercial potential in the likes of GaGa.

"What these girls are doing is based on pop and it may start out in a niche way," he points out.

"But because the songs are so good, it'll spread far beyond [that]."

They'll also be helped along by the grim financial forecast, he contends. "People want a two-minute escape from their pressurised lives," he says. "It wouldn't surprise me if, out of economic drudgery, comes a creative force in pop music. There's no shortage of supply in terms of people who make interesting pop."

It looks as if the classic male guitar group will have trouble finding a record deal in 2009 as labels concentrate their energies on chasing more GaGas and La Rouxs - credible solo talents they're banking on to infuse music with fresh energy.

Is this the end of the band? James Oldham, head of A&R at A&M Records, says: "All A&R departments have been saying to managers and lawyers: 'Don't give us any more bands because we're not going to sign them and they're not going to sell records.' So everything we've been put on to is electronic in nature." Oldham says the shift reminds him of "the pop music that happened post-punk, which was informed by radical ideals but put into a much more mainstream sound, like Adam Ant, ABC, Scritti Politti".

It's also steeped in attitude. Since making electropop can be a solitary pursuit - all you need is a computer - it produces musicians who are used to getting their own way. Oldham remembers La Roux turning up to sign her recording contract "wearing a T-shirt that said 'I Am a C--t', which I thought showed a certain amount of chutzpah".

La Roux, a 20-year-old south Londoner who was born Elly Jackson, is a cooler Sophie Ellis-Bextor: her dance-pop tunes are infectious, she looks striking and she says what she thinks. For instance, she believes that if women want to play an instrument on stage, only a synthesiser will do. "Girls look a bit stupid playing electric guitar and drums. It suits blokes better. But girls look wicked playing synths. When they play drums or whatever, it looks a bit butch. I hope that doesn't sound anti-feminist."

If 2008 was the year when Katy Perry redefined the role of the female pop star, 2009 looks set to belong to Lady GaGa – a twenty two-year-old former New York club dancer, whose self-penned album ‘The Fame’ and irresistibly catchy debut single ‘Just Dance’ have turned the girl born Joanne Stefani Germanotta into a global superstar, seemingly overnight.

In this revealing interview, Lady GaGa tells us about her early career in seedy nightspots, the boozing that inspired her hit and the single-minded drive and ambition she has to become the ultimate 21st century pop artist.
